It is also known as archeology sometimes. It is the branch of socio-cultural anthropology. It is the study of human activity through the recovery and analysis of material culture. 

Archaic exploration, prehistoric studies, or archæology is the science that reviews human histories through the recuperation, documentation and examination of material remains and natural information, including curios, biofacts, human remains.

There is a very low scope in studying archeology in some countries. But, however some countries may have a larger scope. They receive almost median salary. It is a good career and very interesting too but one cannot earn a lot by becoming archeologist.
